Olivia Wilde Opens Up About Custody Battle With Ex Jason Sudeikis: ‘There’s A Reason I Left That Relationship’

Olivia Wilde doesn’t mince words when it comes to her custody battle with ex Jason Sudeikis.

The don’t worry darling the director addressed the meaning of the legal documents onstage at CinemaCon in April in a new interview with Variety. She described him as “vicious” and suggested that the Ted Lasso was trying to “sabotage” her while she was in the middle of a pitch to sell her movie to movie theater owners around the world. But Wilde – who shares Otis, 8, and Daisy, 5, with Sudeikis – added she was not surprised.

“It was my place of work,” said Wilde, who was with Sudeikis for nine years until the end of 2020 – then started dating don’t worry darling stars Harry Styles. “In any other workplace, this would be considered an attack. It was really upsetting. It shouldn’t have happened. There was a huge security breach, which is really scary. The obstacles that you had to walk through to get into that room with multiple badges, plus special COVID tests that had to be done days in advance, which gave you the wristbands needed to get into the event – that was something that required foresight.

“I hated that this meanness took away from the work of so many different people and the studio I was representing up there,” said Wilde, who took the envelope from the processing server and coolly continued his presentation. “Trying to sabotage this was really vicious. But I had a job to do; I’m not easily distracted… But, you know, unfortunately, it wasn’t something that entirely surprised me. I mean, there’s a reason I left that relationship.”

For his part, Sudeikis said at the time that he “had no prior knowledge of when or where” Wilde would be served, as it was up to the company to serve the process. Furthermore, “He would never tolerate her being served in such an inappropriate manner.” A New York judge has since denied Sudeikis’ motion to have Otis and Daisy reside with him in New York. (Before Wilde and Sudeikis parted ways, they split their time between London and Los Angeles after leaving New York.)

Wilde said “the only people who suffered ‘from the CinemaCon debacle’ were my kids, because they’ll have to see this, and they should never have to know it happened. To me, it was appalling. , but the victims were a child of 8 and 5, and it’s really sad. I chose to become an actress; I was willingly in the spotlight. But it’s not something my children asked for . And when my kids get dragged into it, it’s deeply painful.”

Wilde also opened up about their custody arrangement, saying they shared custody, with the exchange occurring weekly. She said that when she is with the children – in London, where she is based – she is devoted to them 24/7, cooking them breakfast and tucking them in the evening.

“They are my world,” she said. “They are my best friends.”

Wilde just wishes he had more privacy as his family continues to transition into their new form.

“For the past two years, my family has been through this kind of restructuring and a revolution that should be a totally personal experience,” she said. “And it’s not. The most painful part of it all was that women shamed me for making a decision that was for my own health and happiness.”

Wilde was flat in the interview, also explaining why she fired Shia LaBeouf – who came with no missing luggage – from don’t worry darling. Styles was his replacement against Florence Pugh.

“I say this as someone who is such an admirer of his work,” Wilde said of LaBeouf. “His process was not conducive to the ethics that I demand in my productions. He has a process that in some ways seems to require combative energy, and I personally don’t think that is conducive to the best performances. “

After LaBeouf was fired, FKA Twigs filed a lawsuit against LaBeouf, his former partner, for sexual assault.

“A lot of things came to light after that event that really troubled me, in terms of behavior,” Wilde said. “I find myself really wishing him health and growth because I believe in restorative justice. But for our movie, what we really needed was an incredibly supportive energy. Especially with a movie like this, I knew I was going to ask Florence to be in very vulnerable situations, and my priority was for her to feel safe and to feel supported.

And while there are plenty of rumors of discord between Wilde and Pugh, the Accommodation alum praised her, saying she “was blown away by” Pugh in the 2019 film Midsommar. “I loved the movie, but I loved it. I was just like, ‘Well, she’s amazing. She’s definitely the most exciting young actress working today.'”

It should be noted that Pugh declined to be interviewed for the story. There has been speculation that Pugh thought Wilde and Styles’ romance overshadowed the project. Pugh herself criticized her sex scenes being so prominent in the film’s first trailer.

“There’s been a lot of stuff that I largely don’t pay attention to,” Wilde said of the rumored drama. . I’m a woman who’s been in this business for over 20 years, and it’s something I’ve fought for for myself and for others, especially as a director. There is absolutely no validity to these claims.

Wilde was also tight-lipped about her romance with Styles, which broke out on set when her relationship with Sudeikis ended. They were first spotted together holding hands in January 2021.

“I won’t say anything about it because I’ve never seen a relationship benefit from being dragged into the public arena,” Wilde said. “We both strive to protect our relationship; I think it’s out of experience, but also out of deep love.”

She criticized the way their relationship was covered up – and the double standard she sees. She is put on trial for dating a younger man, as Styles is 10 years younger than her and she is labeled as an absent mother when dating him.

“When people don’t see me with my kids, it’s always ‘How dare she,'” Wilde said. “I’ve never seen anyone say that about a guy. And if he’s with his kid, he’s a fucking hero.”

Wilde and Styles addressed the “hateful energy” towards their relationship in a rolling stone interview earlier this week:
